Johannes van Bunschoten was born at Kingston, New York about 1730.[1] No birth or baptism record has been found, but he was the youngest child. Nor is there a record of his marriage to Sarah Rappelye. He was a miller. He signed the "Roll of Honor" at Kingston on April 29, 1775. He is listed in 1778 as storing at his house at Marbleton (after the burning if Kingston by the British) 10 boxes of balls and 1 Cag of Flints for the Continental Army. He was in Col. Johannes Snyder's Regiment of Ulster County Militia. He served on the western frontier in 1781 under Col. Albert Pauling and Major Elias Van Bunschoten. He was made a Deacon of Kingston Church in 1780, and in 1784 elected a Trustee of the Corporation of Kingston. The dates of his death, his wife's and the burial location are not recorded.[1]
